What is IVF (In Vitro Fertilization)?

At New Hope Fertility Centre, we understand the emotional and physical journey that comes with infertility. Our compassionate team of fertility specialists is here to guide and support you every step of the way through the In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) process, offering personalized care to help you achieve your dream of parenthood.

What is IVF?

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is a revolutionary fertility treatment that involves combining an egg and sperm outside the body, in a laboratory dish, to create embryos. IVF can help individuals and couples struggling with infertility conceive a child. Whether you are dealing with male or female infertility, advanced maternal age, or unexplained fertility issues, IVF offers hope when other treatments have not been successful.

How IVF Works

The IVF process involves several key steps, all performed under the care of our experienced fertility specialists:

  • Ovarian Stimulation: The first step involves stimulating the ovaries with hormones to produce multiple eggs. This is monitored closely through blood tests and ultrasounds.
  • Egg Retrieval: Once the eggs are mature, they are retrieved from the ovaries in a minor surgical procedure, usually done under sedation.
  • Fertilization: The eggs are then combined with sperm in a laboratory. If necessary, Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) is used, where a single sperm is directly injected into the egg.
  • Embryo Culture: The fertilized eggs (embryos) are monitored for growth and development. The best quality embryos are selected for transfer.
  • Embryo Transfer: One or more healthy embryos are selected and transferred into the woman’s uterus, where they may implant and develop into a pregnancy.
  • Pregnancy Test: After 10-14 days, a blood test is done to confirm pregnancy. Follow-up ultrasounds are performed to monitor the pregnancy.
